Two long years ago, in the turbulent early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week saying, “The value of teachers in our society is priceless. This truth was made clear to all of society this spring. Let’s commit to remembering it and acting on it in the years ahead.”
Over the course of the next two years, teachers would demonstrate time and again why they are, perhaps, the most important people among us. They are the bedrock of our communities, an anchor in every storm, our hope for a brighter future, and a critical lifeline for our children.
We are elated that the Mississippi Legislature has exhibited its commitment to our teachers by moving teacher salaries to a professional level. While we will likely never be able to pay our teachers what they truly deserve, this action by our Legislature is symbolic of the deep appreciation we all feel for these everyday heroes.
Please join us in recognizing the selfless and vital work of our teachers during this Teacher Appreciation Week, May 2 – 6.
Teachers and assistant teachers, we value you, and we are endlessly grateful for the miracles you are working in our classrooms each day. Thank you for standing in the gap to ensure that all Mississippi children have a shot at a bright future. What a blessing!
