Teacher Pay Raise Passes Full Senate

SB 2444, the Senate’s teacher pay raise bill, has passed the full Senate on a unanimous vote.

Each chamber has now passed its own version of the pay raise, and each is substantive. Kudos to the Mississippi House and Senate for moving forward with two impressive teacher pay proposals! We look forward to working with them toward a final bill that will:

  • make Mississippi teachers’ salaries more competitive with the Southeastern average
  • help to recruit and retain teachers, thereby addressing our state’s crippling teacher shortage
  • improve the standard of living for Mississippi teachers

Each plan has strengths and weaknesses. Our sister organization, The Parents’ Campaign Research and Education Fund, has conducted an analysis and comparison of the two plans that will help you sort out the differences between the House and Senate versions.

We have a long way to go in the 2022 Legislative Session. Please reach out to your legislators, thank them for moving forward with significant pay raise proposals for our teachers, and encourage them to stay the course and ensure that a substantive pay raise lands on the governor’s desk!

We’ll be sure to keep you up-to-date on important education bills, and you can check their status any time on our Bill Tracker web page.

We’re so thankful to have you standing up for our teachers and children in our public schools, because together, we’ve got this!
