Rep. Richard Bennett Named House Education Chair

This morning House Speaker Philip Gunn announced that Rep. Richard Bennett of Long Beach will serve as chairman of the House Education Committee. Rep. Bennett is a former school board member and has deep roots in public education. Read more here.

On his appointment as education chair, Rep. Bennett said, “I believe in public schools. I’m a product of public schools and for most of my adult life I’ve fought for the betterment of public schools.”

The Clarion-Ledger reports that pro-voucher and school privatization groups opposed Rep. Bennett’s appointment as education chair. We at The Parents’ Campaign welcome Chairman Bennett and look forward to working with him to strengthen public schools.

Please join us in congratulating Chairman Bennett. You can email him at rbennett@house.ms.gov or leave him a message at his Capitol office by calling 601.359.3330.

This is a good day for Mississippi children. Together, we’ve got this!
