Accountability Review Set for October 10

The State Board of Education will review Mississippi’s school and district accountability model at a work session set for 2:00 p.m. on October 10, 2018. This public meeting will take place in the fourth-floor board room of the Department of Education at 359 North West Street in Jackson. The review was inspired by numerous concerns expressed to the Board about our state’s system of awarding A-F ratings to schools and districts.

If you have feedback about any provision of the accountability model, or how baseline scores for awarding ratings are established, you can mail your remarks to individual board members at the addresses provided on MDE’s web site. Email addresses are not provided. You can find the business rules that govern the accountability model here (text that appears in red indicates changes to the rules that were adopted at the most recent Board meeting on September 20).

Thank you for all the ways you stand up for Mississippi children and our public schools!

Your support makes all the difference.

As we look toward the 2022 Legislative Session, there is reason to be hopeful. And there is reason to be vigilant! The Senate is pushing for a significant teacher pay raise, but the House tax shift plan threatens to derail it.

With your help, we can win the day for Mississippi teachers and children. That takes resources. Your gift of $10, $25, $100, or more can ensure that we have a well-informed, well-organized network of Mississippi public school parents and teachers and that their voices reach decision-makers at the Capitol. #GivingTuesday
