Mississippi public school students and teachers are continuing their march toward excellence! State test scores for the 2022-2023 school year have been released, and the news is good, with the percentage of students scoring proficient or advanced reaching an all-time high in every subject. Congratulations and thanks are due our wonderful public school teachers!
The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) announced that, overall, the percentage of students scoring proficient or advanced is 46.7% in English Language Arts, 52.6% in mathematics, 59.4% in science, and 71.4% in U.S. History. You can find details about the MAAP assessment results, including proficiency rates for your school and school district, here. State test scores factor significantly in school and district accountability ratings, which will be released later this month.
Families of students in kindergarten through grade three are encouraged to participate in one of 10 regional literacy meetings being hosted by the MDE. No registration is required. Attendees will hear an overview of the Literacy-Based Promotion Act and learn strategies that can be used at home to help students improve their reading skills. Each of the meetings below will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.:
