Wright Named Mississippi Schools Chief

The Parents’ Campaign welcomes Dr. Carey Wright, the State Board of Education’s pick for Mississippi’s state superintendent post.

Dr. Wright is currently the CEO of Wright Consulting in Maryland. Her former experience includes service as Chief Academic Officer of the Washington, D.C. school system under former chancellor Michelle Rhee and more than 30 years as an educator in Maryland. Maryland ranked first in the nation in educational quality for five consecutive years, according to the 2013 Quality Counts report.

On her appointment, Dr. Wright said, “I feel there’s a tremendous amount of untapped potential in the state. My background and experience are what drew me to apply for this position. I am honored to be selected as the next State Superintendent and am committed to doing whatever is necessary to create the finest educational system in our nation. The students of Mississippi deserve nothing less.”
