Urgent Request for Help on Vouchers

Please keep those calls going to our congressional delegation in Washington! It is vital that they hear from thousands of us with this all-important message: We DO NOT want our federal tax dollars going to private schools!

We typically don’t ask you to call U.S. Congressmen and Senators – our work always has focused only on statewide legislation and policy. But this threat to Mississippi’s public schools is so potentially devastating and urgent that we made the decision to take on federal legislation, too. That means more work – and more expense – for our small non-profit, so we are going to need your help in two important ways:

  1. a deluge of phone calls to get the attention of our members of Congress
  2. your financial support

Please ask our U.S. Congressmen and both U.S. Senators to oppose the Qualified Elementary and Secondary Education Scholarships (federal tax credit vouchers)

We cannot overstate the importance of your phone calls – many, many of them – to impress upon our federal delegation how serious you – their constituents – are about opposing these measures, which would do serious harm to our public schools. Threats of federally-enforced universal tax-credit vouchers, the clawback of federal ESSER funds, and potential cuts to other federal funding for Mississippi public schools are real and imminent, and our elected officials must hear from us if we want to protect our local schools. You can find additional information about the voucher threat in our letter to Mississippi’s congressional delegation in Washington.

The Parents’ Campaign also needs your financial support to ensure that we have the resources we need to:

  • track both state and federal legislation
  • continue strengthening and mobilizing our network
  • build out our website and social media platforms to include the federal focus

Please consider becoming a sustaining donor to The Parents’ Campaign. The price of one fast-food meal a month would go a long way toward keeping us strong for the long-term and helping us defeat these harmful measures!

The federal tax-credit voucher measure has been added to the budget reconciliation bill in the House and is being fast-tracked toward a quick floor vote. The Senate has its own version that also is being worked through the process. Both measures would empower private interests and voucher-backers to pick and choose which children in Mississippi get to be educated with federal tax dollars and which should be denied – a very frightening proposition.

Make those calls right away, then ask two other public school supporters to call, as well. Our public schools are exceedingly important to our communities, and they are well worth the few minutes required to make our phone calls. Together, we’ve got this!
