Teacher Pay Raise Still in Limbo

The teacher pay raise remains in limbo, awaiting action in the Mississippi House.

The good news is that the House removed the teacher pay raise language from the unvetted tax swap that continues to be pushed by the House leadership. The bad news is that the House has yet to act on the stand-alone teacher pay raise and other education bills that remain on the House calendar for floor votes.

PLEASE ASK YOUR REPRESENTATIVE TO PASS
THE TEACHER PAY RAISE BILL, HB 852

Capitol Switchboard: 601.359.3770

See contact information for legislators who represent your school district.

SB 2149, which holds school districts harmless for average daily attendance in the MAEP calculation, has passed both chambers and is due to be signed by the governor tomorrow. We are grateful to the Legislature for its quick action on this important issue!

All other education bills we’ve been following are going to conference committees or are awaiting action on the House calendar. You can see those updates on the bill tracker page of our website.

If you missed our recent REAL TALK events featuring Q & A with legislators, you can catch the recordings of those here. They were terrific!

In the meantime, please give your rep a call about the teacher pay raise. Our teachers have given so much – this pay raise is the least we can do for them. Ask your friends and family to call, too.

Our children and teachers are so very lucky to have you speaking up for them. Together, we’ve got this!
