Mississippi has a teacher shortage crisis. Educators are leaving the profession in droves, and too few young people are choosing teaching as a career.
It is time for our legislators to make a real investment in our teachers. It is time for a meaningful pay raise for teachers and teacher assistants.
Be aware that legislators are being pressured by privatizers who want to divert state funding needed for a teacher pay raise into vouchers for private school tuition.
Please ask representatives to VOTE NO on voucher bill SB 2675, and to pass a MEANINGFUL pay raise for teachers and teacher assistants.

Today, your school district is worse off financially than it was 10 years ago. A Mississippi Today investigation has determined that, when adjusted for inflation, public school funding has gone backward over the last decade. Since then, either your local taxes have increased to make up the difference, or your children are suffering the consequences, with larger classes, fewer electives, inadequate technology, and dilapidated buildings. These and other results of underfunding have contributed significantly to the teacher shortage.
It’s time for our Legislature to make public schools – and public school teachers – a real priority.
Please consider calling all of the House members who represent your school district. Ask your friends and family to call, too. Be sure to forward our emails, share our Facebook posts, and retweet us on Twitter. Our children and our teachers are counting on us. And together, we’ve got this!
