When the facts are inconvenient, the “school choice” crowd makes up its own.
A promotional piece placed on legislators’ desks by a private school group pushing tax credit scholarships (vouchers) is filled with false and misleading information. The real facts are here.
In states with voucher programs, voucher students in private schools perform about the same as or worse than their peers in public schools (see research). Meanwhile, funding for public schools is diminished by the vouchers. So, with “school choice,” everyone loses.
And in voucher schools, it’s the schools – not the parents – that do the choosing. If politicians are serious about improving education in Mississippi, they will make the investment that counts: a fully funded public school system. Tell your legislators that our kids are more than worth it!
