Those who know Marsha Gates won’t be surprised that she’s been named The Parents’ Campaign’s Member of the Quarter.
A public school parent and longtime member of The Parents’ Campaign, Marsha is an enthusiastic volunteer for the Okolona School District, a leader in the Okolona community, and a staunch advocate for public schools statewide. She understands that decisions made by the Legislature in Jackson have a direct impact on the children in her town, and she is committed to ensuring that the impact is a good one. Marsha frequently touches base with her legislators to discuss education issues, and she employs her boundless energy to move others to action, as well. She shares our social media posts, forwards our emails, and recruits others to join our efforts.
“Public education is Marsha’s passion,” says Karen Johnson, Director of Outreach for The Parents’ Campaign. “She engages every time an education issue is on the table. It makes a tremendous difference to have someone like Marsha who is always on the ready, actively sharing information with other parents and encouraging them to join our efforts. She knows her legislators personally and contacts them regularly.”
Congratulations, Marsha, and THANK YOU for making a difference in the lives of Mississippi children!
Advocates like Marsha make The Parents’ Campaign successful. That’s why we recognize a Member of the Quarter from our statewide membership four times each year, lifting up the ways they advocate for public schools, and acknowledging their efforts with a $50 Visa gift card – a small token of our appreciation for all the ways they improve the lives of Mississippi children.
This is a great time to help us spread the word about The Parents’ Campaign. Take a moment to reach out to your friends and neighbors and encourage them to join our network. They can sign up online here. Because, as Marsha Gates knows, together, we’ve got this!
