The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) wants your feedback on its new plan for public education in our state.
Each state is required to submit a plan to the U.S. Department of Education explaining how it will comply with the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA, the replacement for No Child Left Behind). MDE officials have drafted the plan for Mississippi, incorporating input from parents, educators, and an official advisory committee. During June and July, the public is being offered an opportunity to review the plan and provide feedback.
The plan includes changes to statewide assessments and increased expectations for student performance on state tests, as well as short-term and long-term goals for public schools and how the MDE will assist school districts in meeting those goals.
• This 21-page executive summary provides an update on progress currently being made in Mississippi schools as well as the broad goals laid out in Mississippi’s ESSA plan.
• This 108-page consolidated state plan details how the MDE proposes to comply with the new federal ESSA law.
