Lawmakers Urge Caution on Revenue

“While Mississippi may be back on paper, the same lawmakers expressing excitement are also urging caution about the sustainability of these revenue growths. They attribute much of the excess money to the influx of federal stimulus dollars and unemployment benefits issued over the last year.”

“All the money that’s been dumped in the state is cycling through, and it’s an artificial economy right now,” Sen. Josh Harkins, R-Rankin, said. “It’s not indicative of what a natural day-to-day economy looks like in Mississippi.”
