Last chance: Teacher listening session & parent literacy meeting

This week presents the final opportunity for teachers and parents to take advantage of important meetings.

Thursday evening in Madison, Senate Education Chairman Dennis DeBar will hold his final listening session with teachers. All teachers are strongly encouraged to attend and share their thoughts. Those who were unable to attend earlier sessions in their own congressional districts are welcome to join Thursday’s meeting in person or virtually. Here are the details:

Thursday, Dec. 9, 5:30 p.m. – Madison (3rd Congressional District)
In person: Madison Central High School Auditorium, 1417 Highland Colony Parkway, Madison
Email info@msparentscampaign.org for info on how to attend virtually.

Many thanks to Chairman DeBar for seeking out educators’ input as he and his team work to make Mississippi’s teacher pay competitive in the Southeast.

Tonight is the last opportunity for parents of students in kindergarten through grade 3 to attend a MDE-sponsored literacy meeting to learn how to help their students prepare for the third grade literacy assessment. The meeting will feature information about the state literacy law and strategies that can be used at home to help students improve their reading skills. Meeting details:

TONIGHT – Monday, Dec. 6, 6-7 p.m. – Bates Elementary School, 3180 McDowell Road Ext., Jackson

Additional information about the literacy meeting is available on MDE’s flyer.
