STATEMENT OF GOVERNOR HALEY BARBOUR ON THE PASSAGE OF SENATE BILL 2688
“I regret the Senate, by a narrow majority, has chosen to send Senate Bill 2688 to me rather than to a conference with the House, where an appropriate compromise might have been reached. This bill spends too much, burns too much of our reserves, and fails to adequately address Corrections, where we still face the possibility of turning criminals loose due to the lack of funding. I expect the bill to reach my desk next week, and I will veto it and send it back to the Legislature.”
