A 24-year educator, Dr. Evans has served multiple school districts as a teacher, coach, and principal and currently serves as superintendent of the New Albany School District. Dr. Evans said, “I am deeply honored and humbled to accept the position of State Superintendent of Mississippi. My commitment to fairness, equity, and innovation in education aligns seamlessly with the values of this great state. I look forward to collaborating with educators, stakeholders, and communities to forge new pathways for our graduates, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.”

Dr. Evans will assume the position of State Superintendent on July 1, 2024. Until then, the Mississippi Department of Education will continue under the excellent leadership of Interim State Superintendent Dr. Ray Morgigno.

The Parents’ Campaign congratulates Dr. Evans and looks forward to working with him to ensure that all Mississippi children have the excellent public schools they need and deserve!

The 2024 Legislative Session will begin January 2, and we will be calling on you to communicate with your legislators about the potential impacts of legislation they consider.

As we celebrate this holy holiday season, I am reminded of the incredible potential embodied in a child, and I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the thousands of you who are committed to ensuring that each Mississippi boy and girl is provided an excellent public school. It is a tremendous privilege to stand with you in that endeavor.

Blessings and peace,
