Date Set for Legislature to Reconvene

Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann and House Speaker Philip Gunn have announced a plan to reconvene the Mississippi Legislature on Monday, May 18.

The remainder of the session will be on an expedited schedule, as legislators must complete their work and pass a budget prior to the July 1 start of the new fiscal year. Lt. Gov. Hosemann has indicated that the Legislature will delay decisions on the FY2021 budget until revenue numbers for April and May are reported, pushing votes on budget bills well into June.

When the Legislature reconvenes, the House and Senate will consider general legislation that passed the opposite chamber prior to the suspension of the session due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Check our bill tracker and watch for news on legislation that could have a significant impact on our public schools.

Revenue is expected to be reduced, and budgets are expected to tighten. We will need your help to ensure that our public schools remain a priority.
