How has the private school “choice” voucher program worked for our neighbor, Louisiana?
Despite cherry-picking their students, Louisiana private schools’ voucher students lost ground in math, reading, science, and social studies and were 24 to 50 percent more likely than their public school peers to score below basic (failing) in all tested subjects. ( See research). If the goal is better student achievement, vouchers do not work.
