The Senate passed HB 1046, the voucher bill, this evening on a vote of 30-19. See your senator’s vote here. The bill was amended to include a reverse repealer, which means the bill will go to conference.
Senators were told that this bill is not a voucher bill. That, of course, is false. Any bill that sends public, taxpayer funds to pay tuition at a private school is a voucher. That is precisely what this bill does. Please thank the senators who voted against this privatization bill, and ask your legislators to vote NO when the bill comes back from conference.

Now we need your help on ed funding; RALLY set for March 16
We still have no appropriation bill for our public schools, and we have no news on the MAEP revamp. Rank and file legislators tell us they haven’t been included; the rewrite apparently is still taking place in secret.
Frustrated citizens are organizing an education funding rally at the Capitol and they’ve asked us to spread the word:
“Seat at the Table” Community Rally in Support of Public Education Funding
Thursday, March 16, 2017 10:30 a.m.
Mississippi Capitol, 2nd Floor Rotunda, Jackson, MS
(free parking available at the State Fairgrounds)
Students on spring break are welcome!
Visit the “Seat at the Table” rally website and Facebook page
Many will be on spring break next week – come and bring your children! Show your support for public education by joining the rally, and then make a day of it in the Capital City! Food trucks will be on site for lunch, and numerous museums and family activities are available in close proximity to the Capitol. Find fun family activities and lunch info.
Please help get a good crowd to the Capitol on March 16! Share the rally Facebook page, fill your car with friends, and head to Jackson next Thursday. Let’s show our Legislature that Mississippians support our public schools! I’ll see you there – hit reply and let me know if you’re coming!
