The Senate Education Committee wants your thoughts on year-round school.
In an effort to learn more about a “balanced calendar” or year-round approach to school, the Senate Education Committee will hold a public hearing at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 9, in Room 216 of the Capitol. The committee will hear from Corinth School District superintendent Dr. Lee Childress about that district’s experience with a year-round calendar, as well as representatives from the Mississippi Department of Education and the Southern Regional Education Board. The public is invited to attend.
A year-round calendar typically does not add days to the school year. Rather, the calendar is adjusted to include longer, more frequent breaks throughout the year with a slightly shorter summer break than is provided with a traditional calendar.
The committee encourages you to submit public comments on the year-round school concept. All public comments must be submitted in writing to kishee@senate.ms.gov no later than Monday, November 2.
