The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) is asking the public to provide input on how K-12’s share of CARES Act funding should be spent. The Department has provided a quick online survey through which you can indicate your priorities.
CARES Act education funds are intended to help schools recover some of the costs they incurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic and to assist them in their restart efforts. The deadline to submit your feedback is June 1. Use this survey to provide your input.
If you haven’t already done so, please reach out to our congressional delegation and ask that they insist that Education Secretary Betsy DeVos comply with current federal law and revise her guidance to school districts regarding CARES Act funding. Sec. DeVos, who has long pushed a privatization agenda, has instructed public school districts to shift a vastly disproportionate share of CARES Act funds to private school students. Read more and find contact information here. Money meant for the most disadvantaged children in public schools would be diverted to serve the wealthiest private school students. This is unacceptable!
