Many thanks to all who exercised your right to vote yesterday – and to all those who put themselves forward for service to our state as candidates for public office!
We will be welcoming many new faces into the 2024 Legislature. Nearly three dozen House and Senate seats have changed in this election. If you have new legislators, it will be very important for you to get to know them. Give them a call, and thank them for their willingness to serve. Make it clear that public education is your priority. Exchange cell numbers and let them know you’d like to check in regularly to discuss their votes on issues that affect your schools.
Each session, our legislators vote on hundreds of bills covering every conceivable issue, and they can’t possibly be experts on all of them. They probably will welcome your input and the opportunity to develop a relationship with a constituent.
Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann cruised to victory, campaigning on a strong record of support for public schools. The race for governor was much closer, with incumbent Gov. Tate Reeves being declared the winner late into the evening. We look forward to working with them and our legislators in the coming months and years to ensure that all of our public school children and teachers – in every district in Mississippi – have the resources they need to succeed.
