Electing All School Board Members

Bills requiring the election of all school board members would result in every school board in Mississippi, including those that currently have appointed members, moving to elected membership. National privatization groups have pushed similar measures in other states with the goal of recruiting and funding the campaigns of pro-privatization candidates to privatize school districts from within.

Appointed board members in some high-performing districts report that they are unwilling to campaign for election. Consequently, a move to all elected board members likely would diminish the quality of school boards.
